You can find out how to achieve that light effect here

Awakening of Gaia

:pointr: About the idea:

The furious sea rams the coast with the power of wind. The Goddess emerges in a column of light (light represents the truth) filtered from a gap in the dark storm clouds. She is the soul of the planet, she is the wind, the sea and the coast, fire, thunder, and every living thing. She represents the feminine side of divinity, returning from a long exile.

Based on the lyrics of "La venganza de Gaia" (Gaia's Revenge) by: Mägo de Oz

:pointr: Execution:

The background was made up from several sky and water shots, every part was worked separatedly, on different files, I am talking about sky, sea and woman. The girl was the most difficult element to blend, but the lights helped a lot, if you put the light on the right places, blending is easier, the same for shadows. This time I used a different technique for hair, very very simple, a few brushstrokes with the correct brush and listo.

Her clothes are not very detailed, those were made with scales and some leaves, always trying to keep everything simple. I wasn't trying to center the attention on one point, I wanted to make you see the whole composition and how one element affect the rest. The technique for blending was very improved by reducing the realism, made it look more like a drawing. Well, those are the main points, if you have a more specific question about the techniques used on this piece feel free to send me a note. Adios!

Adios!

This reminds me of the creation :) Great great great job my friend. I noticed how you used the scales and leaves. Very very difficult angle to work with in my opinion however you made it seem too easy. As always this piece is a work of a pro!

Simply stunning. I'm speechless.
This is insanely beautiful!! Your brush work on photoshop is awesome! I love the colors in this, very warm and elegant. Utterly beautiful work here. The way the hair moves and how the clouds are formed, it keeps my eyes within the picture and just the way things are rendered, excellent craftmanship. You did a great job on keeping the whole of the composition because it really shows and the details with the shells and leaves are a very nice touch. I really like how the light rays drag my eyes downward so I don't focus mainly on hte center of the peice, which most people do when you don't have ways to lead their eyes around.

I also think the idea for this is really nice, reminds me of one of my newer characters I have created which includes Gaia. How the light represents itself as truth, very cool symbolism. Overall, I think this is a very out standing peice. This just HAS to be a favorite. Stop doing such lovely work or they will ALL end up as my favorites! ;)
